The OpenChain Project is delighted to announce a redesigned website that makes it easier than ever to find information about conformance and reference material for companies of all sizes using open source.

“The OpenChain Project has received a terrific amount of contributions over the last year,” says Shane Coughlan, OpenChain Project Director. “This material is a direct reflection of how our community has found immediate value in sharing knowledge and of how the key practices of quality open source compliance programs are consistent across companies of all sizes and in all sectors. Our new website takes particular care to provide access to reference materials, training materials and case studies as quickly as possible.”

The OpenChain Project is delighted to announce the immediate availability of a case study from Sony. This contribution is part of the output of our excellent Japan Work Group and forms part of our expanding range of case studies in English and Japanese.

The OpenChain Project is delighted to announce that our Japan Work Group has produced a series of case-studies in English and Japanese from named and anonymous members of the local group. These case studies follow a shared format and outline key challenges and useful approaches.

“It is impossible to overstate the value of the case studies provided by the OpenChain Japan Work Group,” says Shane Coughlan, OpenChain Project Director. “This material provides the local and international market with some tangible insights into how key stakeholders in the field manage open source compliance.”

These case studies will be released twice a week in the lead-up to the Open Source Summit Japan event (June 20-22 in Tokyo). You can be part of this process and part of the larger Japan Work Group activities through participating in our forthcoming ad-hoc meeting on the 8th of June and the next formal meeting at the Toyota Midland Square facility in Nagoya on the 13th of June.

About the OpenChain Project:

The OpenChain Project is delighted to release two reference kanban workflows, one contributed from ID Law Partners in Spain and the other contributed from Source Code Control in the UK. These contributions provide inspiration around how organizations can use a simple workflow to check and improve their open source compliance activities. The end goal of both reference kanban workflows is to support OpenChain Conformance, but it is worth noting that the materials are also suitable for activities adjacent to or separate from specific conformance initiatives.

“The OpenChain Project has a community-developed Specification that outlines the key processes of a quality open source compliance program,” says Shane Coughlan, Project Director. “Specifying these key processes has immense value in focusing resources to solve important challenges. However, the OpenChain Project goes further than this, and now provides a wealth of reference material and guidance documentation. The releases today are an important example of this. These kanban documents have already proven to be invaluable to assist with improving compliance processes and in assisting with OpenChain Conformance. Now they are available to all under CC-0 licensing.”
