THE LINUX FOUNDATION PROJECTS

This page describes the roles and responsibilities within the OpenChain Project.

Ambassador — A community advocacy role, not a governance one. An Ambassador is an individual recognized for their expertise and passion for the project who helps grow and support the community — through activities like public speaking, blogging, mentoring newcomers, and organizing local events. They act as a point of contact and evangelist for OpenChain, but hold no formal decision-making power over the specification, standards, or project direction.

Chairman of OpenChain Subject Workgroup — A governance/leadership role scoped to a specific subject-matter work group (e.g., the Specification Workgroup) that operates at the global level. This person leads that group’s technical work — facilitating discussion, building consensus, and coordinating drafts and proposals related to that subject (e.g., the OpenChain specification itself). Their authority is bounded strictly to that work group’s charter; Ultimately, the Board decides how to handle the outcomes and recommendations from each Workgroup.

Chairman of OpenChain Region Workgroup — A governance/leadership role scoped to a specific country or regionalwork group (e.g., Japan, Germany, Korea). This person leads that region’s local activities — organizing meetings, discussions, and community engagement in the local language and on a locally-set schedule. Regional work groups operate with substantial autonomy from each other, but their output and priorities generally feed into the global work groups (like the Spec Workgroup) rather than operating independently of them. Like the Subject Workgroup Chair, this role’s authority is bounded to that one regional group only.
